Trained as a physicist, I am interested in studying the underlying general principles generating and governing the dynamics of complex systems especially in the socio-economic realm. My principal research focus is the creation of wealth and the generation of innovations. The question which unites my various research efforts is: what are the mechanisms underlying wealth creation, innovation and technological change? Given the privileged role that cities have played in innovation and invention, and generally in the development of human civilization, I am specifically interested in how urban environments foster wealth creation and innovation. In addition, I am interested in developing a quantitative, predictive model based strongly on empirical data asking, “how does innovation push its boundaries?” This work is recently awarded a grant by U.S. National Science Foundation.
