CABDyN welcomes Jukka-Pekka Onnela
Dr Jukka-Pekka Onnela has joined CABDyN as of August 2006, having previously completed his doctorate at the Laboratory of Computational Engineering of Helsinki University of Technology under the direction of Professor Kimmo Kaski. He holds a Junior Research Fellowship at Wolfson College, which is funded through a collaborative agreement with Helsinki University of Technology, and is a member of both the Department of Physics in Oxford and the Said Business School. Jukka-Pekka's research interests cover many different aspects of complex systems, and include financial, social, and biological networks. His recent work on structure and tie strengths in mobile communication networks, carried out in collaboration with colleagues in Finland, Hungary, and the United States, is especially exciting since it provides a uniquely detailed picture of the social network linking 7 million mobile phone users. Jukka-Pekka presented this work at the European Conference on Complex Systems 2006 (ECCS '06), which was held in Oxford in September 2006, and was awarded a joint prize for best paper. Jukka-Pekka has already started a number of new research collaborations in Oxford, and we are very happy that he has joined the CABDyN team. This will also provide an opportunity to strengthen the links between Oxford and Helsinki.
